What the FUCK happened it the 1960s? This was the same decade in which fetal abortion was mandated in every corner of the United States, the same decade in which freedom of association was blasted into smithereens, and the borders were made into a ludicrous parody of sovereignty. Was it all the open land - or a feeling of invincible and infinitely long fortuity in a post-World War Two global economy? Whatever it was, it was an elixir of madness that was forced down the throats of a newly made un-people. Nowadays, you might ask someone who lived through those times: Why does it seem as though people are giving everything away?
This person, thoroughly demoralized, will tell you that nobody is talking about that set of problems anymore - that time for that is no longer here... What a crazy answer! It's like watching a God-damned episode of the Twilight Zone!
These people aren't nationalists... though they might give a cursory nod to the Constitution from time to time. They have no working knowledge of national destiny and are beside themselves in generating pseudo-economic reasons for wanting to bring back national sanity. What about the most one - that it's impossible to have a sense of PURPOSE when one's identity is being perpetually ripped from his feet? What about the nihilism in the forms of increased drug use, licentiousness, and suicide as the symptom to this gaping hole in our lives where Purpose used to abide?
Now, like a drip, drip, drip of an intravenous needle, the bodily fluids that surround that huge evacuated chest wound are being siphoned away so that they might never congeal again... Without much indication of ever changing back.
Not "much", because there is a glimmer of a new horizon. There is more of that glimmer, hopefully, than ever in the last fifty years. Since we've been brought closer together with the advent of social media, there is no longer a sense of a country that isn't full enough and needs more bodies imported, and new ideas are sold in ways that ring truer to the heart and more easily produced and disseminated. Less positively but perhaps still very opportunely, the economic bubble has burst and the U.S. will have to ratchet up its competitiveness. Obviously, this allows less room for social engineering.
Drag it back to sense, you zombified give-'till-it-hurts creeps. Drag it back to sense.
